Dashboard Workflow and Guided Student Journey
What each tab is for, and where the daily work lives.
What It Does
The dashboard workflow helps new and returning users move through senco in a clear order: create a profile, add a natural observation, review extracted behaviours, finalise a non-diagnostic report, coordinate SEND review activity, and track follow-up.
Where To Find It
- Open
/dashboard. - Use the authenticated header for
Dashboard, grouped student/review dropdowns,Guides, search, theme, and profile settings. - Press
⌘Kon macOS orCtrl+Kon Windows/Linux, or clickSearch…, to open global search. - Click the bell (
Notifications) in the header to see your latest notifications, orSee all notificationsat the bottom of the list to open/dashboard/notifications. - Use the
Start with a guided examplepanel for the worked walkthrough. - Open a student profile and use the process map at the top of
/dashboard/students/[id].
Notifications
The bell shows a badge with your unread count and your fifteen most recent notifications. Unread ones have a dot.
- Click a notification to mark it read and open what it is about.
- Click
Mark all readto mark everything read. - Hover a notification and click the cross to clear it from your own list, or click
Clear all. Clearing an organisation-wide notification only removes it for you. - Click
See all notificationsto open the full list.
/dashboard/notifications lists every notification, newest first. Use All or Unread to filter, Mark all read to mark everything read, and Load more to see older ones.
The dot goes the moment you open a notification, rather than a moment later, and Mark all read clears every unread row in one go. If either write is refused the dots come back and a message says why. The row you clicked shows a spinner while its own write is in flight.
Opening the thing a notification is about marks it read, even if you get there another way. For example, opening an escalation page marks your notifications about that escalation read, and opening Settings → Organisation marks your "joined your workspace" notifications read. Repeats about the same thing are merged into one notification that moves back to the top.
Step By Step
- Open
Studentsfrom the dashboard tabs or header dropdown. - Use
Add profileto open the student-profile dialog. - Create a sample or real student profile.
- Use
New observationto open the observation dialog, or open the student profile and chooseObservation. - Click
Extract for review. - Edit extracted behaviours, domains, evidence, source spans, and weights before finalising.
- Finalise and save the report when the reviewed signals match the observation.
- Open
Reports and trendsto use the report grid, trend summaries, detail dialog, and calibration feedback. - If your role allows it, open
SEND reviewand use the left navigation to work through Overview, Case notes, Evidence, Review actions, Communications, Meeting packs, Outcome approvals, Parent/carer shares, Provision impact, and Review exports. - Use dashboard workload, upcoming review, and escalation panels to follow up outstanding activity.
What Each Screen Shows
/dashboard?tab=overview shows the guided example, role-specific workflow cards, and public analyser shortcut.
/dashboard?tab=students shows the student profiles list first. Add profile, New observation, and Import incident log open data-entry dialogs.
/dashboard?tab=workload shows SENCO workload metrics and upcoming SEND reviews.
/dashboard?tab=escalation shows escalation workflow ownership, filtering, notes, due dates, SLA indicators, pathway packs, and acknowledgement. Click a student name on a card to open /dashboard/escalations/[id], the page for that one escalation.
/dashboard/notifications shows all of your notifications with All and Unread filters.
/dashboard?tab=imports redirects straight to /dashboard/imports, where cohort outcomes and duplicate queues are shown immediately. Use Import incident log to open the upload form in a dialog.
/dashboard/students/[id]?tab=overview shows the student stage, process map, metrics, latest report summary, next recommended step, and guide links.
/dashboard/students/[id]?tab=observe shows the observation composer and human-review extraction workflow.
/dashboard/students/[id]?tab=review shows a left-navigation review workspace. Overview contains timeline filtering and the SENCO-ready export action; each other section shows its own records and an Add new dialog.
/dashboard/students/[id]?tab=reports shows trend summaries, bounded longitudinal charts, and a filterable/sortable/paginated report table. Open a report row to see behaviour extraction trace, confidence explanations, interventions, escalation notices, and calibration feedback.
The header command palette searches private workspace records through GET /api/search?q= and can jump to students, reports, review actions, escalations, settings, audit log, guides, and quick navigation actions.
/dashboard/students/[id]?tab=profile shows profile settings.
Tips
- Locked phases include hover tooltips explaining why they are unavailable.
- Staff may be directed towards observation and evidence capture, while SENCO, clinician, and owner roles see review-management workflows.
- Guide links inside dashboard widgets use the small book icon in the top-right of the relevant panel, grid, or form.
- Use
⌘KorCtrl+Kwhen you know the student, report text, review action, or escalation you need but do not want to navigate through tabs. - Keep all written summaries descriptive and non-diagnostic.
- Switching dashboard tabs reloads data from the server. The top progress bar and grey placeholder blocks show that the next tab is on its way, so you do not need to click twice.
Troubleshooting
- If
SEND reviewis locked, finalise at least one observation report or ask a SENCO/owner to check your role. - If
Reports and trendsis locked, add and finalise an observation first. - If a guide link opens the guide hub, use the anchored section that matches the card you came from.
- If escalation filters appear to move page sections, check that you are still on
tab=escalation; filters preserve that tab in current builds. - If the top progress bar keeps running for an unusually long time, the screen is still waiting on the server. Wait for it to finish rather than clicking repeatedly; it clears automatically once the screen loads.
